The Chess Club Championship is determined each August/September.
Players qualify for the championship during the course of the year
by winning special qualifying tournaments, winning more tournaments
than other members, or by winning more tournament games. This page
outlines the rules, tracks how players are doing each year, and
provides a list of participants.
Who
Qualifies?
The
club championship is a 16-player, 4-round, swiss tournament. There
are four qualifying tournaments during the course of the year; the
winners of these tournaments are automatically invited to the
championship. Once those players have been selected, the next
qualifying criteria: tournaments won. The 10 players who have won
the most tournaments are invited. The next criteria looked at is the
number of tournament games won – the two players with the most
tournament games won fill the final two spots in the championship.
If a
player is invited but cannot attend, the next player on the list,
based on the criteria above, is invited. Note: Although winning
blitz tournaments counts towards the club championship, individual
blitz (5-minute) games do not count toward the “tournaments won”
total.
