Chess Class: "From Beginner to Intermediate"
Is your young chess player interested in getting beyond the basics? Do they know how the pieces move, the value of the pieces, and the difference between check and checkmate? If you answered yes, and your child wants to take the next steps to improve their game by learning basic strategies and tactics, than this class is the class for him or her!
From Beginner to Intermediate will teach your child the following:
Basic tactics, including:
- Forks
- Pins
- Skewers
- Attraction
- Deflection
- Discovered Attacks
- Common Checkmates
Basic strategic concepts, including:
- Opening Principles
- Middle Game Concepts
- End Game Strategies and Techniques
- Space and Time Considerations
- Pawn Structures
Note: Students need to have a desire to learn and improve, and so should expect to spend more time listening and observing than playing. There will be limited time to actually play games, although we will be playing through various positions during class in order to apply the concepts learned. If the child is not looking to learn/study, and is just looking for an opportunity to play chess, this is not the class for you, but feel free to contact us anyway and we can inform you of options throughout the Twin Cities area to play.
This class is only open to students in 2nd through 6th grade.
