Introducing the Latest in a Long Line of Chess Club Chess Punks: Vladimir Maltsev Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water...along comes another Chess Club punk worthy of high praise. Fresh off a 5/7 performance in the unrated section of the USCF National High School championship, 3rd grader Vladimir Maltsev won the g/50 "Blizzard" tournament at the Eden Prairie Senior Center, with three consecutive upsets over Zach LaVone, Larry Daniels, and Tom Burns. With a few more rated games under his belt, young Mr. Maltsev will have a legitimate shot at breaking the top 100 list for his age group. Nice job Vladimir! Dahls, Justin Kleist Win February Blitz Justin and Dave Dahl tied with 9.0 in the lower bracket (and drew with each other), while Matthew Dahl and Hindson Her finished with 9.0 in the upper section - but Matthew won the tie break (head to head). Igor Rybakov Wins January Blitz Igor scored a perfect 10/10 to take first place. Alexandra Ding scored 7.0 to take second. Winter Break Chess Camp A Success! Jimmy Libbey, Vladimir Maltsev, Matthew Zeman, Zack LaVone/Calvin Lee were the tournament winners; a great time was had by all. Crosstables page lists tournament details. |
